Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program to identify students from Kindergarten through grade 3 that are behind in reading. Schools will provide help and support to make sure students are on track for reading success by the end of third grade. The Ohio Department of Education provides policy guidance, instructional tools, and resources to schools to assist them in providing supports to assure the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
By September 30th of each school year, the District is required to assess the reading skills of each student in grades K-3 as to their progress made in achieving benchmarks prescribed in the Third Grade Guarantee. At Circleville City Schools students are assessed in Kindergarten with the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) and in Grades 1-3 using the NWEA's Measures of Academic Progress (MAP Growth Assessment) which are offered three times per year.
